Zelma Belle (Denchfield) Martin, 94, died on November 28, 2007, at Great Bend Health and Rehabilitation Center in Great Bend, Kansas.
She was born on April 25, 1913, in rural Greenwood County, the daughter of Henry Herbert “Harry” and Eda Belle (Wright) Denchfield. She attended Harmony Grade School and Piedmont High School. On September 21, 1940, she married Hubert Douglas Martin in Eureka. He passed away on May 8, 1989. She has been a resident of Great Bend for the past six years. The rest of her life she was a resident of Greenwood County, including Reece, Piedmont, and the Eureka areas.
She was a homemaker and was active in the Otter Creek community for many years. She collected the Harmony News for the Eureka Herald for many years. She was a past 4-H project leader for Harmony Sunflowers 4-H Club, past member of Community Benefit EHU club, a long time volunteer for the Bloodmobile, an avid gardener, and attended the Piedmont Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.
Zelma is survived by one son, Harry Lee Martin and his wife, Elaine of Wichita; one daughter, Rozena Martin Brown Tomlin and her husband, Harold of Great Bend; six grandchildren, Jeffery Martin, Lisa Sowers, Kevin Martin all of Wichita, Lonnie Brown and Elwanda Stiles of Great Bend, and Martin Brown of Atlanta, Georgia; twelve great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; brother, Frank Denchfield; and son-in-law, Tom Brown.
A visitation with the family will be held from 1:00 to 2:30 P.M., Tuesday, December 4, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held at 3:00 P.M., the same day at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Dianna Hill of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating.
