Winifred Emily Ludlam of Toronto, died on Tuesday, June 28, 2011, at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, at the age of 101.
She was born on February 17, 1910, in Oak Hill, Kansas, the daughter of Willie John and Dovie Ellen (Burgman) Crane. She attended Hammerly Grade School in Clay County until she was 10, when the family moved to Severy. Winifred joined the Severy United Methodist Church at the age of 14. She graduated from Severy High School with the class of 1928. After her schooling she received Normal Training and taught school in Greenwood County for seven years. She taught Sunday school for older ladies for 25 years.
On February 15, 1936, Winifred was united in marriage to Murl L. Ludlam in Fredonia. They made their home near Toronto, on the Ludlam family farm. To this union three children were born: Melba Louise, Patricia, and Phyllis Faye. Murl preceded her in death on April 23, 2001.
She was a 50 year member of the Eastern Star; and a member of Town & Country EHU, the Toronto Golden Agers, and the Toronto United Methodist Church.
Winifred is survived by two daughters, Phyllis F. and husband, Don Ward of Mulvane; and Betty A. Smith of Mulvane; seven grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; 23 great-great-grandchildren; two great-great-great-grandchildren; and one sister, Joyce Posch of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two daughters, Melba and Patricia; four brothers, Max, Dale, Ralph, and Cecil Crane; and one sister, Clarice Crane.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 5, 2011 at the Toronto United Methodist Church, in Toronto with Pastor Kevin Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow at Toronto Cemetery. Viewing hours are from 9:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Toronto United Methodist Church or to the Vintage Park Activity Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
