Wilma Augusta Nichols, of Eureka, died on Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Eureka Nursing Center, at the age of 93.
She was born on August 22, 1916, in rural Greenwood County, the daughter of William Jennings and Lucy Ella (Ray) Butler. She was raised in rural Greenwood County and attended Tonovay High School. On April 2, 1936, Wilma was united in marriage to Philip Rodney Nichols in Eureka. They made their home in rural Greenwood County where Wilma was a homemaker. Philip preceded her in death on December 16, 1985.
Wilma is survived by four sons, Richard Nichols of Eureka; Arnold Nichols of Eureka; Jerry Nichols of Ponca City, Oklahoma; and Harold Grubb of Holly, Colorado; one daughter, Vickie Shumate of Eureka; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Robert Butler of Augusta. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; great-grandson, Tyler Ray Nichols; one half-brother, Shirley Russell; and two sisters.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, February 26, 2010, at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Nursing Center – Christmas Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
