Wilma Jean McKenzie, of Eureka, died on November 8, 2005 at Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 78.
She was born on August 4, 1927, in Kembro, the daughter of Charles H. and Inez (Blansett) Dewey. She attended rural schools in Greenwood County, where she was raised. She graduated from Hamilton High School with the class of 1945. She attended Southwestern College, in Winfield, where she received her teaching certificate. She taught grades 1 – 8 in the rural Greenwood County school of Dunlap.
On December 23, 1949, she was united in marriage to Bill McKenzie in Iola. The family made their home east of Eureka until the late 1970’s, when they moved to Eureka.
Wilma was a homemaker, a member of the First United Methodist Church, and the Bowling Association.
She was survived by her husband, Bill; two sons, Jay McKenzie and wife Nancy of Eureka; and Alex McKenzie and wife Kathy of Clever, Missouri; two daughters, Carla Winterscheid and husband Don of Virgil; and Rhonda Donovan and husband Mike of Medicine Lodge; and one sister, Emma Jane Winn of Rankin, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 P.M., Friday, November 11, 2005 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
