Wilma Lorene Donaldson, of Neal, Kansas, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Sunday, August 15, 2004, at the age of 87.
She was born on March 30, 1917, in Greenwood County, Kansas, the daughter of Frank Eugene and Daisy Etna (O’Byrne) Brown. She was raised on farms in Fairview and Harmony school districts and attended schools there. In 1935, Wilma graduated from Eureka High School. She then received normal training at Piedmont High School and taught in rural schools in Greenwood and Elk Counties.
On January 28, 1939, she was united in marriage to Harley Estes Bateson in Oklahoma. After their marriage Wilma worked as a nurse’s aid at Greenwood County Hospital. Harley preceded her in death in 1983.
On August 18, 1985, Wilma was united in marriage to Fred Donaldson in Eureka. They made their home in Haysville, Kansas for several years before moving to Neal.
She is survived by her husband, Fred of the home, son, Bill Bateson of Independence, Kansas, step-son, Dennis Donaldson of Toronto, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, sister, Vera Glasco of Dodge City, Kansas, nine nephews, and nine nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harley, brothers, Willie and Wayne Brown, and sisters, Ethel Schreffler, Norma Atchison, and Hazel Lee.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, August 17, 2004, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Steve Keiser of the Eureka Seventh Day Adventist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Twin Grove Cemetery, Severy, Kansas
