William “Earl” Taylor, of Eureka, died on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at Medicalodge in Eureka, at the age of 93.

He was born on March 14, 1914, in Greenwood County, the son of David L. and Bessie (Key) Taylor. He was raised in southern Greenwood County before the family moved to Valley View, Texas, and later to California. In the 1930’s Earl moved to Neal. On July 25, 1935, he was united in marriage to Hazel Lee in Eureka. They made their home in Climax.

Earl farmed in the Climax area. In the mid to late 1940’s he did dam construction at Fall River Reservoir and worked in Texas and Oklahoma doing dam construction. In the early 1950’s to the 1960’s Earl went to work for Russell and Sons doing road construction. The family returned to Climax where Earl farmed until his retirement in the late 1970’s. After retirement Earl drove the senior citizens bus. Hazel preceded him in death on July 28, 2004.

Earl is survived by one son, Earl Taylor of Eureka; one daughter, Truda Melton of Eureka; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, and two sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 9:00 A.M., Saturday, June 23, 2007 at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka, with Mr. Jayme Koup officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospice or Medicalodge of Eureka. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045
