William Raymond Rawlings of Eureka, died on Monday, November 10, 2014 at Vintage Park in Eureka, at the age of 91.

He was born on November 19, 1922 in Eureka, the son of William Homer and Augusta (Bancroft) Rawlings. He was raised six miles southwest of Eureka in the Farmington community, and attended Farmington District 50 Grade School. He graduated from Eureka High School. After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Raymond joined the United States Army where he served his country with honor and dignity in the 9th Infantry Division.

After his discharge, he purchased a farm in Farmington community and resided there until he retired to Eureka. He was married to Thelma Oleta Towler in Eureka. She preceded him in death on February 25, 2013. In addition to farming and ranching cattle, he worked at the Eureka Downs as a racing assistant, and as a Field Technician for the Farm Service Agency.

Raymond was a member of Fidelity Masonic Lodge #106, Veterans’ of Foreign Wars Post #2712 Eureka, Greenwood County Farm Bureau, the Greenwood County Livestock Association, and the Kansas Livestock Association.

He is survived by two children, daughter, Sandra Brashier of Houston, Texas; and son, Jimmy O. Rawlings of Comanche, Oklahoma; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Thelma; and two brothers, Kenneth “CK” Rawlings; and Delbert Rawlings.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, November 13, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Mr. Jayme A. Koup officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Vintage Park for the Christmas Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
