William Alvin “Willie” Nordmeyer, of rural Eureka, died at his home on Thursday, July 15, 2010, at the age of 79.

He was born on May 17, 1931, in Laramie, Wyoming, the son of William H. and Elsie (Liebau) Nordmeyer. Willie was raised in the Quincy/Toronto area and graduated from Quincy High School with the class of 1951. After his schooling he entered the United States Navy and served his country with honor and dignity during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he returned home and began a lifelong career in ranching and farming, along with running a dairy operation, which he closed in 1995. He also worked at Beech Aircraft for several years, and spent some time working in the oil fields.

On January 6, 1964, Willie was united in marriage to Charlene Denner in Eureka. The marriage later ended in divorce.

He is survived by three daughters, Julie Nordmeyer-Bilson and Michelle Johnson both of Eureka, and Marcy Nordmeyer of Kansas City, Missouri; four grandchildren; and four brothers, John Nordmeyer of Eureka, Ray Nordmeyer, Dale Nordmeyer, and Harry Nordmeyer, all of Toronto. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 19, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, with Mr. Kevin Lawrence officiating. Interment will follow in Toronto Cemetery.

Memorials have been established in his name to VFW Post #2712 and the Greenwood County 4-H Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
