Willard Emanuel “Bud” Hughes, of Eureka, died at his home on Monday, January 15, 2007, at the age of 72.
He was born on a farm in Greenwood County, Kansas on July 19, 1934, the son of Morton Cecil and Margaret Lola (Meredith) Hughes. Bud attended rural grade school and Eureka High School, graduating with the class of 1952. He then attended Baker University in Baldwin, Kansas. After his schooling, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity. After his discharge he returned to Eureka and managed a service station for one year. In 1958, Bud began his career in farming and ranching, which he was still pursuing up until his death.
On January 2, 1958, Bud was united in marriage to Glenda Neth in Fredonia. They made their home in rural Eureka.
Bud was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church, the National Rifle Association, and Ducks Unlimited.
He is survived by his wife, Glenda, of the home; two sons, Randy Hughes of Pleasant Hill, California; and Andy Hughes of Eureka; two daughters, Terri Courter of Augusta, Kansas; and Cathy Yeubanks of El Dorado, Kansas; and ten grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, January 19, 2007, at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
