Waymond Lee “Dutch” Schwartz, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2004, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita at the age of 74.
He was born on May 10, 1930, in Wewoka, Oklahoma, the son of Jasper and Lora Elizabeth (Morris) Schwartz. He moved to Eureka in the 1950’s with his family from Oklahoma, working with Fling Rig Company.
On December 26, 1951, he was united in marriage to Betty Larcom. They made their home in Eureka. Dutch entered the United States Army in February of 1952, serving until 1954 as a cook at Brize Norton Air Force Base in England.
He returned to Eureka where he began working for Brenton Trucking and later for Freeman - McManis where he worked for 14 years. Dutch later became head maintenance coordinator for Unified School District # 389 where he remained for 27 years until his retirement in 1995. He acquired his hobby of collecting and showing small engines at shows and traveling in their own camper.
He is survived by his wife Betty of 53 years; one son, Carl and Kathy Schwartz of Valley Falls; one daughter, Diana and Earl Box of Wichita; one grand-daughter, Stephanie and Paul Newton of Leavenworth; two sisters, Sue and Elton Foley of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Sherry Braker of Cushing, Oklahoma; and his cat Foster. He is preceded in death by his parents, and one brother, Wyman.
Calling hours will be from 5 – 7 P.M., Sunday, October 17, 2004 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M., Monday, October 18, 2004 at the funeral home with Pastor David Richards of the First Baptist Church officiating.
