Warren Eugene Powell, of Toronto, Kansas died at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, Kansas on Thursday, January 23, 2003, at the age of 74.

He was born in Los Angeles, California on November 30, 1928, the son of Olen F. and Allene (Doramus) Powell. He attended his first year of school at Elm Flat School in rural Cleo Springs, Oklahoma. He then moved to Los Angeles, California to live with his aunt. He continued his schooling there and graduated from Redondo Beach High School.

In 1946, he entered the United States Navy and faithfully served his country. He was discharged in 1949 and attended Spartan School of Aero. In 1951 he entered the United States Air Force and once again served his country. In 1953 he was united in marriage to Vivian Semas. They were later divorced. In 1955 he was discharged from the Air Force and began working as a sales representative for United Airlines and Swiss Air. He traveled worldwide with his job until 1969, when he moved to Hawaii to work for a travel agency.

In 1975, he returned to California and later moved to Colorado where he learned the stained glass trade. In 1980 Warren moved to Durango, Colorado where he made special stained glass windows for the atrium of the General Palmer House Hotel. In 1988 he moved to Cleo Springs, Oklahoma where he made stained glass windows for the Elm Flat Church, Christian Church, and the Methodist Church.

In 1990 Warren moved to Toronto, Kansas where he continued to work with stained glass and also worked part time for the Toronto Post Office.

He is survived by one brother, Billy Gulick of Eureka, and one sister, Pat Green of Lompoc, California. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at the Toronto United Methodist Church, with Reverend Jim Ulick officiating. Cremation has been effected.

A second memorial service will be held at a later date in Cleo Springs, Oklahoma.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in his name to Greenwood County Home Health Care. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
