Virginia Ilene (Torkelson) Moots was born October 15, 1926 in Horton, Kansas to parents Alfred and Inga Torkelson. She grew up on a farm just outside of Horton and was the second oldest of six children.

She graduated from Horton High School, worked for several years before attending and graduating from Kansas State University with a degree in Business and Education. While attending Kansas State she met Keith Moots and the two were married on Christmas Day, 1950. The couple lived in Newton, KS. And during that time Virginia taught school at Walton High School. In 1958 the couple purchased Eureka Greenhouse and moved to Eureka,KS where they resided for 56 years.
Virginia was a member of Christ Lutheran Church for over 50 years. She enjoyed playing cards and was active in several Bridge Clubs in addition to the Red Hats. She enjoyed traveling and visited 42 countries in the course of her many trips with Keith. Virginia was proud of her Norwegian heritage, and especially enjoyed spending time with her four grandchildren. Virginia will be greatly missed as a friend, sister, wife and mother.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Keith; two sons, Craig, and wife Becca, of Taylorville, IL; and Eric, and wife Lisa, of Eureka, KS; four grandchildren, Craig and Becca's children: Dr. Paul Moots of Peoria, IL; Emily Moots Schumann and husband, Michael Schumann, of Chicago, IL; and Eric and Lisa's sons: Wayne and Wesley Moots of Eureka, KS.; sisters, Sarah Knudson of Horton, KS; Rita Baer of Lewiston, MN; and Karen Leverentz of Stillwater, MN. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, one sister, and an infant daughter, Lynn Ann.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church, in Eureka with Intern Pastor Tim Meyer officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.

The family has requested that memorials be made to Christ Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
