Virginia L. Connell
Virginia Lucile Connell of Eureka, died on Monday, August 18, 2014 at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka at the age of 93.
She was born on April 22, 1921, in Greenwood County, the daughter of Elmer and Ethel (Andrew) Larcom. She was raised in Greenwood County and attended Reece schools. She then attended Emporia State Teachers College, graduating with a teaching certificate.
On March 8, 1946, Virginia was united in marriage to Jack Connell in Wichita.
She taught school in rural Greenwood County and later as Principal in Fall River. During World War II, she was a draftsman for Boeing in Wichita. She worked in Eureka at Zenishek’s, the Eureka Mill, and served Greenwood County as Treasurer for 15 years.
She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, serving as Worthy Matron, a mentor in Rainbows, and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka.
She is survived by two children, daughter, Andrea Effertz of Lafayette, Colorado; and son, Johnney C. and wife, Bev Connell of Lenexa; six grandchildren, Craig and wife, Adrienne Foster of Fairfax, California; Jeffrey and wife, Elizabeth Connell of Lenexa; Justin Eli Effertz of Lafayette, Colorado; Erin and husband, Dave Johnson of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Ambrea and husband, Sylas Cooley of Denver, Colorado; and Kyle and wife, Klaudia Effertz of Westminster, Colorado; and four great-grandchildren, Jackson Connell; Callie Connell; Jordy Johnson; and Kayden Effertz.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, August 22, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Tim Meyer of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Interment will follow at Reece Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life or the Midian Shrine Plane of Mercy. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
