Virginia Mae Butler Anderson
Virginia Mae Butler Anderson died in Houston on October 9, 2013 at the age of 82. She was born in Neal Kansas on July 20, 1931 to Benjamin and Ruth Butler and was raised on the family farm near Eureka, Kansas. Her adult life was spent first in Tulsa and then Houston, but her heart was always on the farm as she loved to recount the long walks to school in the snow and other adventures growing up with her five brothers and three sisters.
Virginia was a loving mother to her four children and “Ninny” and “Grandma” to her six grandchildren. She brought caring and compassion to each of their lives and was an integral part of each of their families. Her warmth was balanced by a feisty attitude borne of her childhood with her older brothers.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Ruth Ransom and her husband John Ransom, son Donald Anderson and her son David’s wife Pamela Anderson along with her grandchildren John Ransom II, Dane Ransom, Kevin Anderson, Carthal Anderson, Jacob Anderson and Benjamin Anderson, all of Houston. Two of her siblings, Vi Butler Swisher and Marvin Butler, also survive her. Two of her sons, Hoyt Kenneth Anderson, Jr. and David Lee Anderson, predeceased her, but she was blissfully unaware of their passing due to her advancing Alzheimer’s.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the Heights Funeral Home, 1317 Heights Boulevard, Houston, Texas 77008.
She will return to her home with visitation at the Koup Family Funeral Home, 121 North Oak Street, Eureka, Kansas from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, October 18, 2013 with graveside services at the Greenwood Cemetery at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, October 19, 2013.
