Violet Marion (Runnells) Welsh-Williams of Eureka, died on Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at her home in Eureka at the age of 92.

She was born March 7, 1929, in Eureka, the daughter of Earl Roscoe and Emma Elizabeth (Unruh) Runnells. She was raised in Eureka and attended local schools, graduating with the Eureka High School Class of 1947. In 1948, Violet was united in marriage to Lyle Birney Welsh. They made their home in Lincolnville. To this union, three children were born. This marriage later ended in divorce. In the late 60s, Violet was united in marriage to Elmer Williams. They made their home in Eureka. To this union, two children were born.

Violet worked as a waitress and cook at the original Benny’s in Eureka and at Mary-Lou’s Supper Club. During her lengthy career as an LPN, she worked at Greenwood County Hospital, Neosho Memorial Hospital in Missouri, Stella Hospital in Missouri, as well as for Dr. Gerard in Dennison, Texas, and Dr. Terry Morris in Eureka. She also worked at various nursing homes in Kansas before retiring in 1999.

She was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Violet is survived by four children: Lyle D. Welsh of Eureka; Joe Earl and wife, Lynne Welsh of Eureka; Dwayne and wife, Dana Williams of Fall River; and Marilee and husband, Kevin McCoy of Eureka; 15 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Mary Ellen Lamb; two grandchildren: Shelly Shay and Kevin Welsh; one great-grandson, Todd Welsh; and five sisters: Margaret Poland, Dorothy Foster, Yvonne Davenport, Betty Ward, and Marty Alice Runnells.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M, Monday, January 17, 2022, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Alan Wilson officiating. Masks should be worn, and social distancing observed. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours are set from 1:00 P.M to 3:00 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.
