Violet Sophronia Hubbell was born March 15, 1915, at Severy, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Marion and Estella (Sours) Hubbell. At the age of two she moved with her family to the upper Paw Paw Community in Elk County. She attended Paw Paw School as a child and received her high school diploma at Severy, graduating with the class of 1931.
On August 6, 1931 she was united in marriage with Clayton “Jack” Johnson at Wichita, Kansas. They made their home in Severy, with a short time spent in Oklahoma City and El Dorado until 1942, when they moved to Eureka. To this union was born three children, Larry Kay of Warrensburg, Missouri, Judith Jean of Hollister, Missouri, and Roger Lee of Carrollton, Texas.
Violet was a member of the Christian-Congregational Church in Eureka.
She is preceded in death by her husband Clayton “Jack” Johnson, son, Larry Kay Johnson, parents, Charles and Estella Hubbell, sister, Vera Brand, and brother, George Hubbell. Left to mourn her loss are her daughter, Judith Young and husband Bill, son, Roger Johnson and wife Susan, daughter-in-law, Deloris Johnson, thirteen grandchildren, and twenty-six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, May 27, 2003, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Bill Coburn of the Christian-Congregational Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
