Viola Blanche Zimmerman, of Eureka, died at the Greenwood County Hospital on Monday, August 29, 2005, at the age of 101.
She was born on West Creek near Neal, Kansas on December 2, 1903, the daughter of Charles and Edna (Worford) Swann. She was raised in the rural Hamilton area and attended rural Greenwood County and Hamilton schools.
On November 7, 1922, Viola was united in marriage to Fred Zimmerman in Eureka. They made their home in Greenwood County. She was a cook at Thrall and Burkett schools as well as cooking for the roustabouts in the oil fields. Fred preceded her in death on December 16, 1972.
Viola lived in Greenwood County all of her 101 years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, the Quilters Guild, the Golden Age Club, the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary, and the Hoe and Hope Garden Club.
She is survived by one son Jack Zimmerman of Turney, Missouri, two daughters, Norma McCollough of Enid, Oklahoma, and Charlene Gober of Hamilton, and 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, Raymond Zimmerman, one grandson, Danny Zimmerman, three brothers, and seven sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, August 31, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton.
