Viola Mae Drake-Black of Eureka, died on Monday, January 11, 2010 at her home, at the age of 83.
She was born on May 18, 1926 in Toronto, the daughter of Levi Joseph and Bessie Mae (Anderson) Blevins. She was raised in Toronto and attended Toronto schools. After her schooling she worked in various places around Toronto, Eureka, and Neodesha.
On November 26, 1945, Viola was united in marriage to Elmer Drake in Toronto. They made their home in Quincy where Elmer coached basketball and worked as a janitor. Later the family moved to Neodesha. When Elmer retired the family moved to Neal. Elmer preceded Viola in death on January 8, 1994.
On January 17, 2005, Viola was united in marriage to James Black in Eureka, where they made their home.
Viola was a member of S.T.O.M.P. of Eureka.
She is survived by her husband, James of the home; two sons, Richard Drake of Eureka; and Ernest Drake of Eureka; one daughter, Susan Wells of Eureka; fifteen grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Elmer, two brothers, and fours sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Reverend Jerry Clark of S.T.O.M.P. of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow in Toronto Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to S.T.O.M.P. or to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
