Vernon William Donnelly, of Eureka, died at Medicalodge of Eureka on Tuesday, June 22, 2004, at the age of 84.

He was born at Birch Tree, Missouri on July 16, 1919, the son of Clarence Cross and Ethel (Te Vault) Donnelly. He was raised in Eureka, and attended local schools.

In 1942, Vernon entered the United States Navy and served his country with honor during World War II aboard the U.S.S. Pensacola.

After his discharge he attended and graduated from Pittsburg State College. He then entered the teaching field, and taught Engineering at Missouri State College. After his teaching career he returned to Eureka where he owned and operated a TV shop before retiring.

Vernon was a member of the Bible Baptist Church and the VFW.

He is survived by one brother, Clarence Donnelly of Piney Flats, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, June 25, 2004, at the Greenwood Abbey, with Reverend Lloyd Stewart of the Bible Baptist Church officiating. Inurnment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in his name to Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home which was in charge of service arrangements.
