Velma Rebecca (Mauk) Miller-Weber of Eureka, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, at Medicalodge in Eureka, at the age of 98.

She was born on February 11, 1909, in Hamilton, the daughter of Julius Arthur and Martha Ellen (Gore) Mauk. She was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School. On September 30, 1928, she was united in marriage to William “Ray” Miller in Eureka. They made their home in Eureka. They later moved to Wichita, where Velma worked for the telephone company.

During World War II, Velma supported the war effort while working at Boeing. The family later moved to Pratt with Ray’s work. They returned to Wichita until the war was over. With rationing at an end, the 7-Up bottling plant in Eureka resumed production, and the family was able to return to Eureka in 1946.

Ray preceded her in death on their anniversary; September 30, 1968. She later married Otto Weber; he too preceded her in death. She was a member of the VFW Post #2712 Auxiliary, the American Legion, and a 50-year member of the Eastwood Rebekah Lodge #557. Velma was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Ron Miller of Blackwell, Oklahoma; and Elwin Miller of Whitney, Texas; one daughter, Marilyn Schoonover of El Dorado; two step-daughters, Bea Breitenstein of El Dorado; and Alberta Harms of El Dorado; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and twenty-five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, one son, one daughter, two brothers, and one sister.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 25, 2007, at Greenwood Cemetery, in Eureka with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 – 7 P.M., Thursday, at Koup Family Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in her name to the Greenwood County Health Department. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045
