Vada M. Ryther of Eureka, formerly of Yates Center, died on December 25, 2009 at Greenwood County Hospital at the age of 91.

She was born on January 29, 1918 in Lebo, Kansas the daughter of Frank and Mae F. (Peters) Lore. Vada attended school in Hartford, Kansas where she graduated before moving to California. She later moved to Eureka where she and her husband ran the Westside Service Station until 1957. The family then moved to Yates Center and opened the Blue Star Motel until 1969. Vada moved backed to Eureka in 2006.

On April 29, 1942 she married Lloyd E. Ryther Sr. in Las Vegas, Nevada. He preceded her in death on March 30, 2001.

She is survived by her son Lloyd E. “Mike” Ryther, Jr. of Yates Center, Kansas; four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; one brother Ben Lore of Eureka, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and numerous brothers and sisters.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at Greenwood Cemetery.

A memorial has been established in her name to Eureka Senior Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home which was in charge of arrangements.
