Thelma Jean Ryan of Eureka, died at the home of her daughter in Viola, Kansas on Thursday, November 28, 2002, at the age of 77.
She was born in Hamilton, Kansas on September 2, 1925, the daughter of Glad Eric and Myrtle May (Langton) Purkeypile. She was raised in the Hamilton/Eureka area and graduated from Eureka High School.
On January 1, 1944 Thelma was united in marriage to Billy Richard Ryan in Wichita. They made their home in Wichita for a short time before moving to Eureka. In 1949 they moved to Hamilton to make their home, then in 1966 the family moved to Burlington, in 1969 they relocated to El Dorado where Thelma lived until 2001 when she returned to Eureka. Billy preceded her in death on January 15, 1974.
Thelma was a retail clerk and a homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters, Tanna Jean Broyles of Viola, Kansas, Janet Belinda Seymour of El Dorado, Kansas, and Billie Maychell Brooks of Girard, Kansas, one son, James Eric Ryan of Eureka, nineteen grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, two brothers, Dale and Burl Purkeypile both of Eureka, and three sisters, Helen Buffington of Ottawa, Kansas, Doris Segebartt of Idaho, and Wanda Mitchell of El Dorado, Kansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, December 2, 2002, at the Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, with Pastor Stan Seymour of the First Christian Church of El Dorado officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
