Thelma âTJâ Close
Thelma June Close of Eureka, died on Thursday, December 4, 2014, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 79.
She was born on August 27, 1935, in Sumner County, Kansas the daughter of George Ernest and Mary Kennith (Whitting) Reynolds. On July 27, 1952, she was united in marriage to Dick Allen Close in Eureka. While Dick was serving in the military, Thelma lived in New York for two years. After his discharge, they moved to Wichita where they lived for 17 years. They moved to Eureka in May 1969. Dick preceded her in death on March 31, 1997.
She was a member of the Bible Baptist Church.
She is survived by six children, son, Dale Close of Mount Hope, Kansas; daughters, Regina Hatcher of Eureka; Lois Stewart of Eureka; Pamela Dawson of Wichita; Michele Hare of Ozark, Missouri; and son, David Close of Newton; fifteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother, Stanley E. Reynolds of El Dorado; and one sister, Marjorie Woods of Pratt. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers: Robert, Loren, and Dean; and one sister, Irene.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, December 8, 2014, at the Bible Baptist Church in Eureka with Reverend Lloyd Stewart officiating. Visitation hours are from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Thelma Close Funeral Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
