Terry was born the son of Marion “Speed” Vanderman and Doris Hanson Vanderman, on May 22, 1952, at Wesley Medical Center, in Wichita, Kansas. He departed this life at the age of 52 on Tuesday, November 2, 2004, in Augusta, Kansas.

Terry was a resident of Eureka during his childhood. He began school at Tonovay Grade School and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1970.

Terry grew up attending worship services in a non-denominational church. He made a profession of faith in Jesus as his Lord and Savior. He later attended worship services in Toronto, at what is known as the welder’s church.

Terry was united in marriage with Tina Calvin on September 29, 1998.

Terry was hard working, kindhearted, and generous. He adored his mother and he loved his dad. He also loved helping his dad. At the early age of five, he drove the green Chevy pickup on the farm, even though he couldn’t see out while scooting down to reach the clutch and do the shifting. He helped with the cattle and when necessary, would dive out of the back of the pickup to bulldog a calf. During high school, he worked on drilling rigs. During summers, he went on the pipeline with his dad as a welder’s helper.

Following high school, Terry’s work on drilling rigs and on pipelines took him to many different places in the United States. He eventually learned pipeline welding and became a local 798 union welder. Later on, he bought and operated a tractor-trailer. The joy of Terry’s recent truck operating years was the addition of a Yorkie pup, Braveheart, who accompanied him everywhere. Terry enjoyed referring to Braveheart as “son” and enjoyed telling the stories of his and Braveheart’s trucking adventurers.

Terry was often eager to share his opinions as well, and like his dad, took great delight in the discussion that ensued when his opinions differed from those of another person.

Terry is survived by his wife, Tina, of their home in Augusta. He is also survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Debbie Vanderman and nephew Josh, Emporia; a sister and brother-in-law, Linda and David Southard, a niece and family, Celissa and Scott Pyle, and children, Carley and Connor; and a nephew Scott Southard, all of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and other family and friends.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Doris; his friend, John May; grandparents, aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Terry will be greatly missed by his family and friends and by his canine family of four Yorkies, Braveheart, Roberta, Christmas, and Littlebear.

A visitation will be held from 5 - 7 P.M., Saturday, November 6, 2004 at the funeral home.

Services for Terry will be held at 2:00 P.M., on Sunday, November 7, 2004 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Pastor David Richards, of the First Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant View Cemetery, Climax.
