Tempa Glorian Postlethwait, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, March 2, 2010, at Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 83.
She was born on February 21, 1927, in Eureka, the daughter of Frank James and Mary Helen (Williams) Hartley. She was raised in the Eureka area, and attended Eureka grade schools. She would later in life go on to receive her GED at Butler County Juinor College in El Dorado.
On October 15, 1946, Tempa was united in marriage to Linslye Edward “Steve” Postlethwait of Eureka in Iola. To this union, two children were born; a son, Ted, and a daughter, Margie. Tempa and Steve made their home in Eureka. Upon retiring, to take care of her husband, she had held many jobs including Hartenbower’s Café, Peter Pan, Embers Bowling Alley, City Drug Store, and BiRite Variety Store. Her last job was as a caregiver for Alice McGinnis.
She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother, who truly loved her family. She lived for them. Tempa was an energetic person full of life. She was an unselfish person, always putting others ahead of herself. She was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church of Eureka for many years.
She is survived by one son, Ted L. Postlethwait of Eureka; one daughter, Margie E. Brown and husband, Barry of Amarillo, Texas; three granddaughters, Beth Postlethwait of Paoli, Indiana; Kim and husband, Shane Kastning of Amarillo, Texas; and Kelley and husband, Doug Hall of Amarillo, Texas; two great-granddaughters, Shelby Wiggins of Paoli, Indiana; and Kaylee Kastning of Amarillo, Texas; three great-grandsons, Shawn Kastning, Delton and Dawson Hall all of Amarillo, Texas; and numerous nephews and nieces, who she loved dearly.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Steve Postlethwait; and four brothers, Julian, Frank, Max, and Phillip, and one sister, Helen Burnham.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, March 5, 2010, at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka, with Mr. Max Burnham of Madison officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Greenwood County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
