Sylvia Marie Hinkes, of Eureka, died on Monday, May 5, 2008, at Medicalodge in Eureka, at the age of 91.
She was born on August 21, 1916, in Severy, the daughter of James and Cora (Rice) Robert. She was raised in the Severy area and attended local schools. She worked on the family farm after her schooling. On September 20, 1949, she was united in marriage to Gib Hinkes in Wichita, where they made their home. She worked as a receiving clerk at Sears until her retirement in 1971. After her retirement, they moved back to Eureka. He preceded her in death on December 23, 1987.
She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
Sylvia is survived by two sons, Walter and daughter-in-law Margaret Shook of Wichita; and Dwayne and daughter-in-law Sandy Shook of Peck; six grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, May 8, 2008, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Fr. Mike Klag officiating. A rosary will be held at 7:00 P.M., Wednesday, May 7, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery following the funeral mass.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Hospice Care of Kansas. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
