Stanley Robert Kurtz of Eureka died Monday, December 25, 2006, at Saint Francis – Via Christi Regional Medical Center, in Wichita, at the age of 59.
He was born on October 10, 1947, the son of Charles and Lila (Gardner) Kurtz, in Eureka. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from local schools. He farmed and raised cattle from a young age. He started his own business, 54 Tire & Oil, where he worked until his death.
On July 14, 1968, he was united in marriage to Mary Sauder in Eureka. They made their home on the family farm, southeast of Eureka.
He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, a former County Commissioner, and a Bachelor Township board member.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, Robert of Eureka; and John Kurtz and wife Laura of Hutchinson; one daughter, Melanie and son-in-law, Rusty Bitler of Eureka; sisters, Alberta Stapleford of Albany, Georgia and Charlotte Kolaczkowski of Brownsboro, Texas; and one grand-daughter, Charlee Bitler of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, December 29, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Reverend Dr. D. James Stapleford and Reverend Gary Boles officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
