Shirley Ann Rockhill, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, December 30, 2008, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, at the age of 71.
She was born on November 4, 1937, in Burns, the daughter of Edward Henry and Anna Ethel (Heath) Thackeray. She was raised in Great Bend and attended local schools. After her schooling, she moved to Topeka to attend business school and worked as a secretary. She later returned to Great Bend and worked as a CPA.
On May 23, 1970, Shirley was united in marriage to Clayton Rockhill in Great Bend. They made their home in Garden City. Shirley worked as a doctors office manager for 17 years in Garden City. Shirley and Clayton retired to Eureka.
Shirley was a member of the Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her husband, Clayton; one son, Edward Charles Mayer of Arkansas City; three step-sons, David Rockhill of Springfield, Missouri; Vince Rockhill of Wichita; and Lyle Rockhill of Hartford; one daughter, Jari Jo Williams of Gold Beach, Oregon; one step-daughter, Maretta Huntington of Emporia; eleven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, June Addison of Eureka.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 2, 2009 at the Christ Lutheran Church in Eureka, with Pastor Maureen Howard officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Thursday, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Christ Lutheran Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
