Ruth Elizabeth Newby

Ruth Elizabeth Newby of El Dorado, died at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado on Monday, October 20, 2003, at the age of 89.
She was born in Topeka, Kansas on November 4, 1913, the daughter of Vern and Anna (Peterson) Helmig. She was raised in Chicago, Illinois and graduated from Roosevelt High School with the class of 1931.
On April 5, 1936, Ruth was united in marriage to Bliss A. Newby in Vega, Texas. In 1946, the family moved to Eureka where Ruth lived until moving into Lakepoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in El Dorado, in 2001. Bliss preceded her in death on March 31, 1999.
She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, Queen Bess Chapter 51, Order of the Easter Star, and E.H.U.
She is survived by one son, Curtis Newby of Wichita, one daughter, Martha Hooper, of Eureka, four granddaughters, Cheryl Strougth, Dedra Rippee, Kelly Shopovick, and Dana Wright, three great-grandchildren, Matthew, Nicholas, and Samantha, three nephews, and three nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, October 23, 2003, at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, which was in charge of service arrangements.
