Ruth L. Larsen Aubuchon died on August 1, 2008 in Eureka, Kansas at the age of 80.

She was born on June 10, 1928 to William J. and Adelia M. (Ireland) Larsen of rural Burns, Kansas. She was a graduate of Burns High School. She attended summer school at Emporia State Teacher’s College and began her teaching career teaching an all-eight-grade- country school at Youngtown near Marion, Kansas. As she continued teaching elementary grades at Burns, Cimarron and St. Francis, Kansas she continued to attend summer school and with some classes taken by correspondence obtained a Master of Science in Education from Kansas State Teachers College, Emporia, Ks. At Cimarron she met her future husband Julian Aubuchon, Jr. They were marred on August 21, 1954 in Burns, Kansas. In 1956 they came to Eureka, Ks., where Ruth taught first grade until she retired in 1988. Ruth often accompanied her husband on fishing expeditions, first fishing for bait fish then setting limb lines and trot lines in search of the monster catfish that filled their freezer and furnished fish fries for friends and relatives.

She became a member of the First United Methodist Church at an early age and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Eureka at the time of her death. Ruth was an active member of the DAR and collaborated with other family members in tracking down and recording the family genealogy and history. After retirement she and her husband, Julian, traveled extensively in their motor home accompanying other siblings in their camping expeditions. Since early July 2007, she has been a resident of Medicalodge in Eureka.

Mrs. Aubuchon was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Julian. She is survived by three brothers; Milton H. Larsen of Wichita, Kansas, Clyde L. (Lois) Larsen of Garnett, Kansas, Lowell L. Larsen of Burns, Kansas; one sister Florence F. Biehl of Lenexa, Kansas; nephews, nieces and a host of extended family, friends, and former students.

Memorials services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 8, 2008 at Koup Family Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her name to the First United Methodist Church of Eureka and the Ruth L. Aubuchon Memorial Scholarship Fund, ESU Foundation, 1500 Highland St., Emporia, Kansas 66801. Memorials may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
