Ruth "Joyce" Armitage of Eureka, died Tuesday, September 8, 2015, at her home in Eureka at the age of 76.

She was born on October 14, 1938, in Virgil, the daughter of Paul A. and Vernice Lucille (Welsh) Sailor. She was raised in Hamilton and graduated from Hamilton High School. On May 26, 1956, she was united in marriage to Lyle Garrett Armitage, Jr., in Hamilton. They made their home in Wichita and later lived in South Carolina while Lyle was in the military.

After his discharge they lived in Emporia from 1962 to 1991. Joyce was a meat wrapper at a grocery store, a paraprofessional, and worked as a waitress. They retired to Eureka. She loved to play bridge. Lyle preceded her in death on April 16, 2006. She attended the First United Methodist Church and was a member of the Hamilton United Methodist Church.

She is survived by four children, Lyle and wife, Brenda Armitage of Emporia; Shari and husband, J. W. Sidler of Strong City; Bob and wife, Jane of Wamego; and Mari Collins and partner, Steve Denson of Greeley, Colorado; 11 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Lois Snider of Clovis, New Mexico. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lyle, brother Ray, and sister Susie.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday, September 14, at Blakely Cemetery with Pastor Larry Moore of the Eureka Community Church officiating. A private family scattering will take place at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to Mended Heart Ministries. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
