Ruby Bell Grundy, of Eureka, died on February 19, 2004, at The Gran Villas at the age of 94.
She was born on January 4, 1910, near Climax, the daughter of Charles Edwin and Nellie Leah (Rice) Bate. She was raised in the Climax area and attended Climax schools, graduating from Climax High School with the class of 1928. After high school she attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia where she received her teaching certificate. She then taught school in Tonovay, Reece, and Climax. During her life Ruby was also employed by Boeing, Woolworths, TG&Y, and the Turner School District.
On August 24, 1929, Ruby was united in marriage to G. Vernon Grundy in Fredonia, Kansas. They made their home in Climax, Tonovay, Reece, Augusta, Scott oil field, Emporia, and Kansas City. In 1973, they retired and returned to Climax. In 1978, they moved to Eureka. Vernon preceded her in death on March 23, 1995.
She was a member of the Climax United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.
Ruby is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law; Bob and Kay Grundy of Manvel, Texas, and Randall and Pat Grundy of San Diego, California; seven grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; and one sister, Laura Hubbard of Wichita. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two brothers, and one sister.
Graveside services and interment were held at 2:00P.M., Friday, February 20, 2004, at Greenwood Cemetery with Reverend Don Harper of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in her name to the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
