Roy “Stanley” Lilley, Jr., of Piedmont, died at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at the age of 90.

He was born on the family farm near Piedmont on December 22, 1917, the son of Roy Stanley Lilley, Sr. and Gail (Braden) Lilley. He was raised near Piedmont and graduated from Piedmont High School. Stanley attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia and the University of Kansas in Lawrence.

On May 2, 1942, Stanley entered the United States Army and served his country with honor and dignity during World War II, in both the European and African Theaters. After his discharge he returned to the family farm where his interests included conservation of the land and water resources and raising his own cow-calf herd.

On June 1, 1977, Stanley was united in marriage to Carmen Wygle in Yates Center. They made their home on the family farm in Piedmont.

He was a lifetime member of both the V.F.W. and the American Legion Posts in Eureka and served on the watershed board.

Stanley is survived by his wife, Carmen, of the home, one son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Angie Lowe of Eureka, and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 20, 2008, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established in his name to the Stanley Lilley Scholarship Fund. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
