Roy C. Fechter of Hamilton died Sunday, June 17, 2007, at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas at the age of 83.
Roy was born on January 31, 1924, in Hilltop, Kansas, the son of Henry and Anna (Dreyer). At the onset of World War II Roy entered the US Army in Germany, where he served his country with honor and dignity. After the war Roy was a carpenter and had his own business.
On December 4, 1948, Roy married Melba Ward in Eureka, Kansas. They made there home south of Hamilton for nearly 59 years.
Roy was a dedicated member of the Hamilton Lions Club and was made honorary member upon his illness. He was also a member of the VFW #2712 of Eureka. He loved to watch the kid’s ball games and was their biggest fan. Roy was a member of the Hamilton School Board for many years.
Roy is survived by his wife, Melba, one son, Danny and wife, Ruth of El Dorado; daughter, Cindy McCartney and husband, Mike of El Dorado; granddaughters, Amber McClaren and husband, Tad of El Dorado; Danna Lee and husband, Scott of Augusta; step-granddaughter, Michael Marin and husband, Nic of Barnsdall, Oklahoma; great-granddaughter Elizabeth McClaren; great-grandson; Daniel James McClaren; three great-grandsons, Michael, Keegan, and Marcus Marin; two brothers, Aaron Fechter of Hamilton; and George Fechter of Emporia; sister, Goldie Beck of Quincy, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, June 21, 2007, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Mark Demas. Interment will follow in Janesville Cemetery, Hamilton, Kansas.
