Rosa Ethelda Watson of Eureka died at her home on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, at the age of 89.
She was born in Christian County, Missouri on September 19, 1914, the daughter of William Leslie and Sytha (Golden) Atkinson. Rosa was raised in rural Havana, Kansas, and attended Lone Cherry country school and graduated from Sedan High School. She then taught school for a short while.
On October 12, 1934, she was united in marriage to James A. Watson in Independence, Kansas. They made their home in rural Havana, Caney, Goodland, and Coffeyville before moving to rural Eureka in the early 1980’s.
Rosa was a homemaker and a member of the Christian-Congregational Church.
She is survived by her husband, James, of the home; four sons, John W. Watson of Hayes, Kansas; James R. Watson of Niotaze; Kansas, Mark C. Watson of Peru, Kansas; and Bill D. Watson of Eureka; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren, and one brother, Henry Atkinson of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, and one sister.
Graveside services and interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 10, 2003, in Greenwood Cemetery, with Reverend Bill Coburn of the Christian-Congregational Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in her name to the Christian-Congregational Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas, which was in charge of service arrangements.
