Ronald A. Ebberts, of Eureka, died at his residence on Monday, November 12, 2012, at the age of 79.

He was born in Piedmont, Kansas on June 28, 1933, the son of Leo M. and Ruth N. (Satchell) Ebberts. Ron was raised in the Piedmont/Eureka area. He graduated from Tonovay High School with the class of 1951. He then attended the College of Emporia where he received a Bachelor’s degree. While attending college he was named an All American Football Player. He also attended Kansas State Teachers College in Emporia, where he received a Master’s Degree.

After his schooling he entered the United States Marine Corp and served his country with honor and dignity. After his military service Ron returned to the College of Emporia and was a football coach. He later became President of the college. In 1973, he moved back to Eureka where he farmed and ranched until his death.

He was a member of the Lions Club, and a former board member of the Greenwood County Historical Society.

He is survived by one daughter, Susan Hazelbaker and husband, Mike of Leonardville, Kansas; one son, David Ebberts and wife, Marci of Kansas City, Missouri; five grandchildren, Coleman Fowles and companion, Mischa Pacada, Cassidy Anderson and husband, Drew, Chloe Sportsman, Kennedy Ebberts, and Caroline Ebberts; and one brother, Ray Ebberts of Topeka. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 16, 2012, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Larry Moore officiating. A private family inurnment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the Eureka Public Library or the Greenwood County Historical Society. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
