Robert “Lyle” Watchous, of Eureka, died on Friday, June 10, 2005 at his residence in Eureka, at the age of 75.
He was born on August 1, 1929, in Greenwood County, Kansas the son of Frank and Lydia (French) Watchous. He was raised near Eureka and attended Fairview country school and Eureka schools. After his schooling he entered the United States Navy and served his country with honor and dignity during the Korean conflict.
On February 18, 1962, Lyle was united in marriage to Margaret Dean Kuhn in Eureka. They owned and operated The Half Dollar Tavern in Eureka for many years. Margaret preceded him in death on November 13, 2000.
Lyle is survived by one son, Tim Watchous of Hutchinson, two daughters, Bobbie Watchous and Debbie Harber both of Eureka, three grandchildren, one great-grandchild, two brothers, Charlie Watchous of El Dorado and Clifford Watchous of Milton, Florida, and three sisters, Inez of Lake Elsinore, California, Donna McCormick of California, and Mary Boren of Eureka. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, and five sisters.
Memorial services were held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 15, 2005, at Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating.
A memorial has been established in his name to the Greenwood County Home Health Care and Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
