Robert Lewis Olmstead, of Eureka, died on Monday, February 7, 2005 at Medicalodge, in Eureka, at the age of 88.

He was born on August 31, 1916, in Belle Plaine, the son of Edwin Lewis and Susie (Hanson) Olmstead. He was raised in Belle Plaine and graduated from local schools. He later attended one semester of college in Oklahoma After college he ran a bread wagon and later worked for Dillions grocery store as a butcher until retiring in 1977.

On July 5, 1939, he married Louise Gray in Newton, Kansas. They were married 52 years. She preceded him in death.

He was a member of the Methodist church.

He is survived by one son, Robert D. Olmstead of Dodge City; one daughter, Carolyn Gage of Salina; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; two brothers, Leonard, and Bennie; and two sisters, Pauline, and Mary.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 19, 2005 at Greenwood Abbey, Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka, with Reverend Diana Hill of the First United Methodist Church officiating. Cremation has been effected.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Greenwood County Hospice and the Greenwood County Sheriff’s Department. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045.
