Bob Brown of Wichita, died on Wednesday, March 12, 2008, at his home at the age of 77.
He was born on August 18, 1930, the son of Richmond B. and Ethel M. (Benson) Brown. He was raised in Eureka, and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1948. After Bob’s schooling he moved to Wichita where he went to work as a route salesman for Arnholz. Later he went to work for Ablah Supply before moving to Yates Center. He bought Woody’s Café and Motel in Yates Center before moving back to Eureka to manage the Ember’s Restaurant and Supper Club. Later the family bought the Family Affair Café then Bob and Alice’s Supper Club. Bob then moved back to Wichita where he managed the restaurant for J.C. Penney. He worked for Smitty’s Refrigeration and Sunflower Restaurant and Supply. Bob worked for National Equipment before his retirement in 2007.
On October 21, 1950, he married Katherine “Alice” Tye in Eureka. She preceded him death on May 23, 2000.
Bob was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus, serving as Past Grand Knight, and Past Grand Navigator. He was past president of the Yates Center Chamber of Commerce and the Kansas Restaurant Purveyors Association.
He is survived by three sons, Kelly Brown of Wichita; Timothy Brown of Springfield, Missouri; and Terence Brown of Wichita; daughters, Patricia Malcolm of Wellington; and Mary Smith of Wichita; eight grandchildren, Corey Hughes, Christian Malcolm, Shawn Brown, Joshua Smith, Angela Conway, Dallas Smith; John Smith, and Anthony Brown; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice; son, Stephen Brown; and sister, Normalie Bobbitt.
A rosary service will held be at 10:45 A.M. with funeral mass following at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eureka, with Father Mike Klag officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Eureka.
A memorial has been established in his memory to the Knights of Columbus. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
