Darlene Wiggins
Rita “Darlene” Wiggins, 83, of Eureka, died on Monday, January 6, 2014, at Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka.
She was born January 28, 1930 in rural Hamilton, the daughter of Ed and Bernice (Newlon) Zimmerman. A lifetime resident of the area, Darlene was a graduate of Hamilton High School with the Class of 1948.
On December 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Albert Wiggins in Toronto. They made their home north of Eureka where they ranched and were owners of Flint Hills Feed and Supply in Eureka for over 31 years. She attended Upper Fall River Lutheran Church northwest of Eureka. Darlene was a member of the Upper Fall River Extension Homemakers Unit, the Greenwood County Cattlewomen’s Association, the Greenwood County Historical Society, Kansas Farm Bureau, and a lifetime member of the Kansas Livestock Association. She volunteered with the Greenwood County Hospital Auxiliary. Darlene was an avid supporter of Greenwood County 4-H organization for both her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by one son, Mike Wiggins and his wife, Rene; one daughter, Debra Burtin and her husband, Mike, all of Eureka; one sister, Edwina Hayes of Eureka; and four grandchildren, Matt Burtin of Eureka; Mica (Burtin) Coulter of Eureka; Lindy (Wiggins) Knowles of Stillwater, Oklahoma; and Latham Wiggins of Eureka. Darlene was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and one brother, Dale Zimmerman
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, January 9, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in her memory to the Greenwood County Hospital or Midwest Babson Memorial Scholarship Foundation. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which is in charge of service arrangements.
