Richard Lee Scheck was born October 27, 1931, at Olpe, Kansas, the son of Herman and Elsie (Voorhees) Scheck. He passed away at the Greenwood County Hospital on February 7, 2005, at the age of 73.
In 1951, Richard graduated from Tonovay High School. After high school, Richard was a farmer, and served in the Eureka National Guard for 17 ½ years. He began his career with the Greenwood County Road and Bridge Department in 1952, as a Blademan, and retired in January 1995, after 43 years of service.
On July 16, 1965, Richard was united in marriage to Barbara Belt Myers. They made their home in Eureka.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, of the home, daughter, Sharyl Chestnut of Alta Vista, Kansas, son, Richard Jr. of Emporia, sisters, Alberta Miller of Benton, Kansas, Gladis Tannahill of Eureka, and Carol Edwards of Hamilton, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, one grandson, and two step-sons.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 10, 2005, at the Koup Family Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Moore of the Prince of Peace Pentecostal Holiness Church of Eureka officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
