Raymond Lloyd Hammond, of Eureka, died at Via Christi - St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita, on Tuesday, August 3, 2004, at the age of 74.
He was born in Burlington, Kansas on November 18, 1929, the son of Arza and Emma (Williams) Hammond. He was raised near Burlington, and attended Coffey County rural schools.
After his schooling, he farmed in the Burlington area. During this time, he was united in marriage to Kathryn Mechnig, which later ended in divorce. In the mid 1960’s, he drove an over-the-road truck, and in the early 1970’s, he began working in the oil field at Garden City and Texarkana. On July 2, 1970, Raymond was united in marriage to Freda Moore in Fredonia, Kansas. In the early 1980’s, the family moved to rural Eureka where Raymond farmed. Freda preceded him in death on May 8, 1999.
Raymond is survived by four sons, Keith Hammond of Neosho Falls, Curtis Hammond of Fritch, Texas, Michael Hammond of Kincaid, Lloyd Hammond of Moran; two daughters, Connie Houck of Moran, Pamela Mann of Pryor, Oklahoma; fourteen grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Charles Hammond of Emporia, and Leo Hammond of Colorado. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, two brothers, and one sister.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 6, 2004, at the Koup Family Funeral Home with Pastor Alan Hunter of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church officiating. Interment will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Burlington.
