Raymond Dee Flummer, of Eureka, died on Tuesday, July 13, 2010, at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado, at the age of 92.
He was born on February 25, 1918, in Wichita, the son of Oscar Calvin and Ollie (Anderson) Flummer. He was raised in Eureka and graduated from Eureka High School with the class of 1936. He joined the United States Army in 1941 where he served as an engineer during World War II.
After the war, he returned to Eureka where he operated his own dairy farm until 1964, after which he continued farming and ranching until he retired in the early 1980’s. On April 10, 1951, Raymond was united in marriage to Violet Barbee in Yates Center. She preceded him in death on July 31, 1977. On April 10, 1979, Raymond was united in marriage to Anita Hobbs in Yates Center. She preceded him in death on January 23, 2002. In the early 1980’s he began wintering in Englewood, Florida, but always returned to Eureka in the summer.
Raymond regularly attended the First United Methodist Church of Eureka, was a member of VFW Post #2712, the Cattlemen’s Association, the Fall River Watershed District #26 board, and was a Greenwood County Commissioner for 12 years.
He is survived by his companion, Dorothy Pryor; cherished friends, Meritt and Minnie Johnson and their children, Gerald and Jeleane; two nephews, Keith Barbee of Texas, and James M. Flummer of Illinois; and one niece, Kathy Linsenbardt of St. Louis, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents, two wives, and one brother.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 17, 2010, at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Keith Barbee officiating. Interment will follow at Upper Fall River Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to the First United Methodist Church or the Greenwood County Hospital. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
