Dr. Randall Ray Ford, of Eureka, died on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at Eureka Nursing Center, at the age of 54.

He was born on May 21, 1954, in Salina, the son of Ray Henry and Isla Rose (Bloomberg) Ford. He was raised in Salina and graduated from Salina South High School. He continued his education, receiving a Bachelors in Music Performance, a Master of Music in Music Theory and Composition, a Master in Music Education, Master of Science in counseling, and eventually a Ph.D. in Music Education. After receiving his Masters in Music Education and Master in Science he began teaching as an elementary music teacher in Cottonwood Falls for 1 year. He later moved to Eureka where taught elementary school music until his retirement in 1999. He also was a counselor for one year in Newton.

On June 19, 1988, Randy was united in marriage to Janice (Settles) Swartz in Independence.

He is survived by his wife, Janice; two sons, Nik Ford of Rose Hill; and Marshall Ford of Lincoln, Nebraska; one daughter, Valerie Ford of Seattle, Washington; one step-son, Steven Swartz of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and two step-daughters, Jennifer Deal of Yates Center; and Emilie Swartz of Lawrence; four grandchildren; and one sister, Carolyn Everett of Columbus, Georgia.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the First United Methodist Church of Eureka with Reverend Diana Hill officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.

The Randy Ford Memorial Scholarship Fund has been established in his name. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
