Opal C. Patterson, of Eureka, died at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita on Friday, January 17, 2003 at the age of 85.
She was born in Copan, Oklahoma on May 26, 1917, the daughter of William and Minnie (Kiegley) Hansen. Opal was raised in Copan and graduated from Copan High School.
In 1936 she was united in marriage to Orville L. Patterson in Copan. They moved throughout Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas with Orville’s calling as a Southern Baptist Minister. In 1970 the family moved to Eureka to make their home. Orville preceded her in death in April 1999.
Opal was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church and taught children’s Sunday School classes. She was a homemaker and had cared for many of the area children in her home.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Don and Nancy Patterson of Douglas, Kansas, one daughter, Sharon Patterson of Joplin, Missouri, seven grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and two brothers, Paul Hansen of California and Kay Hansen of Dewey, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and one daughter, Linda Patterson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 20, 2003, at the Jefferson Street Baptist Church with Pastor Alan Hunter officiating. Private interment will follow.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made in her name to the Jefferson Street Baptist Church. Contributions may be sent in care of the Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
