Omalee Weston of Hamilton, died on Tuesday, March 6, 2007, at Medicalodge in Eureka at the age of 84.
She was born on July 27, 1922, in Janesville Township, the daughter of Oscar T. and Coie D. (McCloud) Smith. She was raised in Hamilton and graduated with the class of 1940. After graduation, Omalee attended Newman Hospital School of Nursing in Emporia, Kansas. She then moved to California and worked at Mrs. Carpenter’s nursing home in Sacramento before getting a job with the Newhall Community Hospital in Newhall, California, and purchasing the soda fountain at the Rx Pharmacy. Omalee eventually moved back to Hamilton in 1969.
On December 5, 1964, she married Donald D. Weston in Las Vegas, Nevada. They made their home in California before moving back to Hamilton, Kansas. He preceded her in death on October 4, 2005.
She was a member of the Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Dairriel) Thompson of Kingman, Arizona; step-son, David Weston of Newhall, California; step-daughter, Dawn Vanderlaan of Citrus Heights, California; two grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; one great-grandchild; seven step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Howard (Pat) Smith of Benton, Kansas; sisters, Marjorie Gregory of Paradise, California; and Leta Sherrill of Hamilton, Kansas; 2 sisters-in-law, Carol Smith of Topeka, Kansas; and Veda Smith of Spokane, Washington.
Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, March 10, 2007, at Janesville Cemetery in Hamilton, Kansas with Pastor Gary Boles of the Moline Community Fellowship officiating. A visitation will be held from 5 P.M. – 7 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
Memorials have been established in her name to the Greenwood County Hospice and the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Department. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, Kansas 67045.
