Ollie Dell VanRoyen, of Eureka, died on November 24, 2006, at the Greenwood County Hospital, in Eureka, at the age of 90.
She was born on September 18, 1916, in Putnam, Dewey County, Oklahoma the daughter of Charles and Julia (Foust) Smith. She was raised in the Elk County area. Ollie worked at the Eureka nursing home and Senior Center until she retired. She also worked as a cook in several restaurants around Greenwood County. Her greatest passions were family, cooking, and quilting.
On May 21, 1932, she married Enos VanRoyen in Howard, Elk County, Kansas. The couple lived in Elk, Linn, Butler, and Greenwood counties.
She was baptized into the Christian faith in Elk Falls as a young mother. Ollie was a member of the Magic Circle Quilters Guild.
She is survived by five daughters, Lilly Cheever, Alma Boardman, Karen Meyer, Glenice Chastain, all of Eureka; and Linda Simons of Toronto; one sister, Blondena Harold, of Mt. Hope; nineteen grandchildren; forty-three great-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; ten great-great-grandchildren; four step-great-great-grandchildren; two uncles; and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; brother, Charles W. Smith; son, J.W. VanRoyen; daughter, Esther Meyer; one grandson; and one great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 1, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka. Private interment will follow at a later date.
