Ollie J. Slead
Ollie Jeanette Slead of Eureka, died on Sunday, February 9, 2014 at the Eureka Nursing Center, in Eureka, at the age of 88.
She was born on June 15, 1925, in Eureka, the daughter of Andrew and Stella (Mitchell) Cook. She was raised in Eureka and attended local schools. On October 17, 1942, Ollie was united in marriage to Harold Dean Hyson. To this union, six children were born: Harold Lee, Jeanette Marie, Iris Collette, Vernon Arnold, Myron Sherwood, and Crystal June. This marriage later ended in divorce. She married Delbert Raymond Slead on July 9, 1959. He preceded her in death on May 19, 1988.
Ollie was a homemaker, housekeeper, and worked for Cook’s AlumaFab at one time. She was a member of the Jefferson Street Baptist Church.
She is survived by three children, Vernon and wife, Kathy Hyson of Wichita; Myron Hyson of El Dorado; and Crystal and husband, Gary Johnson of Virgil; six grandchildren, Steve and wife, April Hyson; Tonya and husband, James Malicoat; Mark and wife, Robin Watson; Deena and husband, Rick Bailey; Susan Davis-George; and Sherry and husband, John Jones; thirteen great-grandchildren; sixteen great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Jim Cook of Burlington. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert; one son, Harold Hyson; two daughters, Jeanette Hyson, and Iris Hyson; one granddaughter, Tammy Hyson; two brothers, John Cook and Junior Cook; and two sisters, Edna Cook and Opal Loveland.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, February 14, 2014 at Koup Family Funeral Home, in Eureka with Pastor Stan Seymour of the First Christian Church of El Dorado officiating. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that memorials be made to AseraCare Hospice or the Eureka Nursing Center. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
