Newman “Boyd” Powell, of Fall River, died on Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at his residence at the age of 70.
He was born on February 11, 1934, in Neosho, Missouri, the son of Norville and Ethel (Smith) Powell. He was raised in Diamond, Missouri and attended school there.
On April 6, 1974, Boyd was united in marriage to Anna Marie Spresser in Maize, Kansas. They made their home in Wichita where he owned and operated Boyd Powell’s Flooring. In 1990, they sold the business and moved to Fall River.
He is survived by his wife, Anna Marie, of the home, two sons, Robert Powell, of Joplin, Missouri, and Tom Powell of Joplin, Missouri; one step-son, Richard Brill of Moline, Kansas; four daughters, Debra Powell of Jefferson City, Missouri, Beverly Powell of Sarcoxie, Missouri, Vicky Scott of Louiseville, Texas, and Peggy Flynn of Mesa, Arizona; two step-daughters, Linda McDade of Winfield, Kansas, and Cheryl Spires of Augusta, Kansas; and one brother, Charles Powell of California.
The family will greet friends and relatives from 5 P.M. to 7 P.M., on Sunday, April 11, 2004 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka.
Rosary recitation will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, April 12, 2004, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Eureka. Funeral mass will follow at 11:00 A.M. at the church with Father Leo Kerschen officiating. Interment will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, April 12, 2004, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Winfield, Kansas with Reverend Bernard Gorges of the Holy Name Parish officiating.
A memorial has been established in Boyd’s name with Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home at P.O. Box 595, Eureka, KS 67045, which was in charge of service arrangements.
