Morris Wendell “Shorty” Herren, of Fall River, died on Thursday, January 19, 2006 at Wesley Rehabilitation Center in Wichita, at the age of 66.
He was born on January 5, 1940, in rural Missouri, the son of Berle Leroy and Effie Mae (Walker) Herren. He was raised in Missouri and later Eureka. He attended Mulberry Elementary School. On January 15, 1966, Shorty was united in marriage to Janet Saffle in Wichita. From 1963 until his retirement in 1985 he worked for the Missouri-Pacific Railroad in El Dorado. The family moved to Potwin, and later to Fall River.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; two daughters, Wendy Klingsporn of Wichita; and Angela Dodd of Wichita; seven grandchildren; three brothers, Madison Walker of South Dakota; Bill Herren of Nevada; and Bob Herren of Peculiar, Missouri; four sisters, Moetta Escareno of Eureka; Betty White of Moore, Oklahoma; Jean Stoy of Angelton, Texas; and Doris McCarthy of Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Debra Sue Herren.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Sunday, January 22, 2006 at Koup Family Funeral Home, Eureka with Chaplain Kathy Barker of Odyssey Healthcare officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. – 6:00 P.M., Saturday, January 21, at Koup Family Funeral Home.
